FR2, Barcelona: Javier battles to fourth

Javier Tarancon added to yesterday’s victory in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup with a fine charge through the field to take fourth place in today’s title finale at Barcelona.

This morning Javier’s day began with a lap of 1m 43.972s round the sunny Catalan circuit, good enough for the fifth best time in his half of the draw and within half a second of the leading mark set by Alex Riberas. That earned him 9th place on the afternoon’s grid – but he didn’t stay there for long.

FR2.0, Barcelona: Fantastic win for Javier

Fresh from sealing the Formula Renault 2.0 Alps title last week, Javier Tarancon continued his magnificent form by taking victory in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup at Barcelona.

The Spaniard started his day’s work by heading his half of the qualifying draw with a lap of 1m 44.483s, a third of a second ahead of nearest challenger Yann Zimmer. Unfortunately he didn’t come away with pole position as Carlos Sainz Jr set a faster time to head the other group – with Javier starting alongside him on the front row.

FR2.0, Barcelona: Solid start for Javier

The newly-crowned Formula Renault Alps series champion today returned for the Barcelona finale of his other 2011 competition, the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup.

The Spaniard set the 7th fastest time of the afternoon session with a lap of 1m 45.023s, seven tenths behind the leading mark set by Robin Frijns (1m 44.319s).  In the morning Javier had lapped in 1m 46.751 to go 16th fastest, 1.6s behind the pace-setting Daniil Kvyat.

Javier will now aim to round off his successful season with a strong result in the Eurocup to add to his Alps triumph. The first qualifying session starts at 0900 local Spanish time more …
