Gravity Academy driver Marco Wittmann headed a Signature 1-2 at Hockenheim on Saturday morning in round three of the Formula 3 Euro Series, leading home Edoardo Mortara to claim his first win in the category.
Poleman Wittmann got too much wheelspin at the start, allowing fellow front-row starter Daniel Juncadella (Prema) to lead into Turn 1. Marco ran wide there, side-by-side with Mortara, but just held second on the run to Turn 2, where all hell let loose as sixth-place qualifier Alexander Sims (, Gravity Academy, ART Grand Prix) collided with Laurens Vanthoor (Signature) and into retirement.

Marco Wittmann (Gravity Academy, Signature Team) snatched a late pole position for the first F3 Euro Series race at Hockenheim. The Gravitydriver was part of a flurry of improvements late in the session which pushed early pace setter Valtteri Bottas down to fifth spot.
Marco’s lap was just less than half a tenth quicker than Daniel Juncadella’s, meaning the two will share the front row ahead of Edoardo Mortara, who was briefly fastest with two minutes to go.

The Formula 3 Euro Series started off the Hockenheim weekend with a 150 minutes’ pre-event test, in which Edoardo Mortara (Signature, 1:33.696 minutes) came out on top. The Italian was followed by Valtteri Bottas (ART Grand Prix, 1:33.762 minutes), Laurens Vanthoor (Signature, 1:33.846 minutes) and Roberto Merhi (Mücke Motorsport, 1:34.023 minutes) in second to fourth place.
