Marco Wittmann had to settle for the scant consolation of a podium at the Macau Grand Prix despite leading for much of the race.
The German driver started on pole position and stormed into an early lead while Roberto Merhi triggered a startline pile-up behind him after he got away slowly from P3. Marco’s early challenger Valtteri Bottas hit the wall following the first safety car restart on lap 4 and Marco took full advantage. At one point the German’s lead was 2.7 seconds but a safety car on lap seven wiped out his advantage.

Marco Wittmann continued his magnificent weekend’s work by dominating the qualification race to set up pole position for Sunday’s Macau Grand Prix.
The German driver started from pole and fended off all his challengers en route to a lights-to-flag victory. It was a controlled performance in the ten lap preliminary event that finished behind the safety car after a crash involving Jimmy Eriksson on lap 9.
Marco’s job was helped when fellow front row starter Antonio da Costa broke its first gear at the start but he nonetheless pulled out a comfortable 1.5 second gap over Felipe Nasr after more …

Marco Wittmann put in a stunning late lap to secure pole position for the Macau Formula 3 Grand Prix while Alexander Sims will line up on row two.
The German driver had also taken provisional pole position yesterday after a penalty was awarded to pace-setter Roberto Merhi in a dramatic wet session. This time the track was dry and it again boiled down to a straight fight between the two F3 Euro Series competitors.
Marco had gone quickest in the morning practice session but Merhi seemed set for top spot in the 30-minute qualifying session until Marco stole position more …
