With only one Racing Engineering car on the grid for Sunday’s race, all the hopes of the Spanish team were with Christian Vietoris. The young German had a great good start and passed several cars to place himself in 8th position. On lap 5 he passed Grosjean to take 7th position and was all set to climb further up on the timing screens. However, only two laps later, Christian touched the kerbs on the outside of turn 9. Spinning across the track, he hit the barriers and his race was over, where only 14 cars finished.

Racing Engineering had a very tough day at Spa Francorchamps. In a race filled with incidents and uncertainty about the weather conditions, both Racing Engineering drivers were all but lucky. While Christian finished the race in an unrewarding 11th position, teammate Dani Clos’ race finished at turn one, when the young Spaniard was the victim of Grosjean’s collision with Bird, who then slid into Dani’s path. Complaining about pain in his back, the Spaniard was taken to the hospital for further check ups.

Qualifying was halted no less than four times, first due to a flooded track and then due to a variety of accidents. The 30-minute session thus took over an hour to complete.
DPR’s Herck took advantage of leading the pack out of the pitlane when the track was quickest following the penultimate restart, and his time was good enough to keep him on top throughout the final dash for times.
Second was home driver Jerome D’Ambrosio (DAMS), with series leader Pastor Maldonado (Rapax) third and Oliver Turvey (iSport) set to line up fourth, just in front of Christian. more …
