History taught us the best window to set the fastest laptime at the Spaniard track is during the morning session. In the second day of the last pre-season tests, this theory was again verified with Jérôme d’Ambrosio (Gravity Academy) claiming the top spot ahead of newcomer Christian Vietoris (Gravity Academy) and Pastor Maldonado in the first half of the day.

GP2 tests in Barcelona, day 1

The GP2 Series paddock gathered this week for the last three-day pre-season test session in Barcelona. And once again, it was Pastor Maldonado who set the pace at the end of the day in a 1:27.457, but rookies did not falter with four of them finishing in the Top 5, ART’s Sam Bird leading Racing Engineering’s Christian Vietoris, Arden’s Charles Pic and Super Nova’s Ericsson.

GP2 series, Paul Ricard, day 3

Pastor Maldonado ended both three testing days at the top of the timing sheet in Le Castellet. He clocked in a best laptime of 1:09.784 this afternoon. This last day was also marked by rookies’ strong performances starting with Jules Bianchi who claimed this morning’s top spot.

In a drying morning session on a 2D short configuration track and using soft tyres, ART placed their rookie duo at the top of the timing sheet, Jules Bianchi half a tenth quicker than Sam Bird.
